My family has been keeping busy: my daughter has made amazing pretzels, we started a garden, we've been eating well (Dutch Babies for breakfast -YUM!), taking photos, playing lego and doing a lot of chores and spring cleaning. >Just to name a few...
I normally have soooo many students in the art room at lunch at Palmer so I wanted to invite you all back to zoom with me on Friday. I've invited other teachers to join as well for a casual space to have your lunch and connect. If you are interested, email me at [email protected] before 11:00 am Friday. I will send you an invitation to the lunch date which will be from 1:00-1:30 pm. See you then!
Vikky Alexander
website: Vikky Alexander instagram: @vixen1234 Vikky Alexander is known for many different kinds of work. The work presented below is not necessarily her most known, but I felt it worked well into this ‘spot the difference’ project. Bio: Vikky Alexander is one of Vancouver’s most acclaimed artists. Her work has been recognized within Canada and internationally in New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Europe and in the United States. Working as a photographer, sculptor, collagist and installation artist, Alexander is a leading practitioner in the field of photo-conceptualism. Alexander’s work is fantastic in both the literal and figurative senses of the words. She is playful and uses a variety of media and techniques to make her point: mirrors, photographic landscape murals, postcards collected on her travels, her own photography and video. Her work is at once both seductive and disruptive; she likes to situate the viewer within idealized spaces that reflect our aspirations and utopian desires. With Alexander’s work, one can experience a sense of vertigo: a physical displacement from the natural world that mirrors and frames our desires within the dynamics of consumption and utopian ideals. She lives in Montreal and is represented by the Trepanier Baer Gallery in Calgary, Alberta, Wilding Cran, Los Angeles and Cooper Cole, Toronto. Denisse Benitez
website: Denisse Benitez instagram: @chasingdenisse Here are a couple of images of hers that I felt applied to the project that were found on her instagram account. Bio: "I moved to Arizona in September of '18 and now we're renovating our 1,500 sq ft home. We recently eloped at the beautiful Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. Oh! We also have a puppy named Fern. Together (Fern helps too) we run our Photography business, Paris in June, and Chasing Denisse. I love my little family and I can't wait to share all of our adventures with you! Creating content wasn't enough for me. I wanted to help others create their own content and elevate their personal brands. My 10+ years of experience in the blogging community and the photography community have allowed me to offer services like Lightroom presets, branding consultations and I can even help you make an incredible media kit. Although social media strategies are constantly changing, it's important to develop your own voice and I love helping people do just that. Here's the short version: I've been a photographer for about 9 years. I've had the pleasure of working with the likes of The Knot, Latina Magazine, Essence, Vice, and so many more. I can name drop all day but let's keep it moving. I have also been blogging since angel fire (that's a really long time). Most recently I've grown known for my award-winning Street Style photography. That led me to work exclusively with bloggers, which has allowed me to travel all over the world and has inspired me to document my life as well. So, here we are. Welcome!" Greg Lamarche
website: Greg Lamarche instagram: @gregbfb Greg’s work that I featured below is the inspiration for this project. Take a look at how he layers the letters. They are all hand cut! Bio: Inspired by the dynamism of his native New York City and its role as an incubator of the outlaw art of graffiti, Greg Lamarche's collages combine the city's relentless rhythm and graffiti's aggressive presence to express the power, elegance and rebelliousness of urban creativity. Using found materials and commercially printed papers from his vast collection of vintage printed matter, Lamarche abstracts graffiti's visual language, playing with a profusion of font styles, word fragments, multiple layers, bold colours, rhythmic repetition, multiple perspective and movement. Each unique work of precisely hand-cut paper thus becomes an interplay of the directness of graphic design and the aesthetics of fine art. see samples below Dress up and show your spirit - post photos on your Instagram stories or share your photos on whatever platform you like! Be sure to send them to [email protected] so I can use it in the yearbook!
